„I am driven by light“. The old italian and dutch masters with their chiaroscuro knew all about it. Light is everything. Without light the above colors would not shine. And: light focusses the concentration of the viewer on the essential part of the painting. Art today often focusses on being special and different from all other artwork. Most artists do away completely with the techniques of the old masters. I see that differently: for me, a painting should appeal to the senses, be balanced, attractive, and contain some form of statement. Combining the extreme use of light together with a scene that conveys strong movement of people within the picture is my main motivation for grabbing an easle, putting some nice paint on my palette and start telling a story. Stroke by stroke.
